Our mission is

Our mission is

“to provide sustainable affordable housing,

and workspace for community enterprises, in Somerset;

promoting co-operative principles and equality of opportunity

for the benefit of the community.”

SCCLT is a new co-operative society working to address the chronic shortage of affordable sustainable housing in Somerset, at the same time as creating incubators for new and growing community enterprises. We place tenants at the heart of our governance structure, so that the land trust is always accountable to its intended beneficiaries. At the same time, any Somerset resident can join and have a say in how the society is run; people outside the traditional county can also join, with limited voting rights. Download our leaflet for more information.

If you'd like to know more about the services available in our shop, why not visit the Somerset Co-operative Hub website?

Vacancies at 10 East Reach - and more on the way

Are you looking for a new home, or do you know someone who is? We have a flat free at 10 East Reach suitable for a single person, and we are looking for someone who is in genuine housing need (which could mean homeless, or unsuitably housed, or unaffordably housed, or insecurely housed) and would like to be part of a housing scheme owned and run jointly by its tenants and the community.
We have an application form that all prospective tenants need to complete - see the links to the right - and if you wish to be considered for the current vacancy we'd advise getting the completed form to us at 10 East Reach, Taunton or landtrust@somerset.coop by Wednesday 18th October.
However, we are - as you may have gathered - in the process of developing a planning application for many more flats to be built in 2018-19, and we would very much like to get names down for the flats well in advance. That's because our architect is very keen to involve prospective tenants in the design process so they can customise their future homes.
So, whether your housing need is immediate and urgent, or whether you are looking to improve your situation in the future, do please take a look at the application form.

Our AGM during Co-operatives Fortnight

This year, the Somerset Co-operative Community Land Trust AGM will be on the 28th June at 1pm.
As we often do, we've chosen a date that falls within Co-operatives Fortnight. Co-operatives Fortnight is a chance to remind ourselves of the power of co-operation. In the case of Somerset CCLT, we work closely with other co-ops - the Phone Co-op, Co-operative Energy, and Credit Unions in Somerset.
It’s a time to co-operate. And after a year of conflict, it's never been needed more.
Running from 17 June to 1 July 2017, it is organised by Co-operatives UK, sponsored generously by some of the UK’s most successful co-operatives and brought to life by co-ops across the UK. Why? Because we know that co-operating makes a big difference and it’s time to remind the rest of the UK too.
So please join us on the 28th as we work together to make Somerset a more co-operative place.

Our community newsletter for Taunton

We've just started circulating a community newsletter to Taunton residents that we hope will help people to benefit from our services and get involved in our community. Ten thousand homes, mostly in the east of Taunton, will get a copy through their letterbox - but you can also download it from here. Do please pass it on to anyone you know!

Hello to Highbridge

A warm welcome to residents of Highbridge finding out about us for the first time. Although we have spent the last couple of years working exclusively on our first property in Taunton, as our name suggests we have always intended to bring our model of community-led development to other urban and semi-urban locations in Somerset.
We've been in discussion with the neighbourhood planning team in Burnham and Highbridge who have lately done excellent work consulting about how the area should develop (you can find out more about them here). They have identified some real needs in Highbridge, and there are sites that we may be able to acquire to make their vision a reality.
If you live in the Highbridge area and you'd like to see local people implementing a vision that local people have developed, please consider becoming a member of the CLT - the application form is easy to download, just follow the link.

On the day of Donald Trump's inauguration, we're getting together to start healing the divisions of 2016 and bulding bridges in our community. The words of Martin Luther King - someone who confronted division and injustice in America - are a particular inspration: "Let us live together as brothers and sisters in a community". Join us on Taunton's oldest bridge to show your support for building bridges between all the different groups that make up our community, so we can work together for all our futures.
