Our mission is

We're a community land trust with a mission "to provide sustainable affordable housing, and workspace for community enterprises, in Somerset; promoting co-operative principles and equality of opportunity for the benefit of the community.”
We place tenants at the heart of our governance structure, so that the land trust is always accountable to its intended beneficiaries. At the same time, any Somerset resident can join and have a say in how the society is run. Read 'About us' to find out more.

Where we work

We work in Somerset's market towns, which - perhaps surprisingly - have not developed Community Land Trusts as fast as the villages have. While we act as a single umbrella, each community is regarded as having its own priorities and interests and we are keen to ensure that we decentralise decision making as much as possible. We may in fact 'split' into multiple CLTs in future so as to support more local control.

East Reach, Taunton

Our first property was at 10 East Reach and we have since acquired 11A next door. Our plan is to build eight flats on the vacant site behind.

Did you know we own one of the very few WWII air raid shelters left in its original location?

Wiveliscombe

Our second site is the former premises of Exmoor Ales, on Golden Hill. We are at the early stages of developing proposals for its development and we're keen to hear from members and potential members in Wiveliscombe as to what kind of affordable housing and community workspace is most needed.
We have an option to buy the site, which we will exercise before April 2021.

Highbridge

Our third area of work is set to be Highbridge, but we've yet to confirm a suitable site to develop. In the meantime, here's a photo of Morland Community Hub, a great community project overlooking Newtown Lake - they are just the kind of community hub we want to support.
